About This Course

This is a non-contact HOME STUDY training based on a live training that was recorded.

Play therapy has an established history as an effective treatment for children who have experienced trauma. This training will discuss the neurobiology of trauma on a child’s developing brain and implementing the effective use of the therapeutic powers of play as a change agent in treatment. This training will provide directive play therapy interventions for working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma to assist with providing psychoeducation, feelings identification, affect regulation, reprocessing traumatic experiences and creating safety.

  

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the neurobiology of trauma to understand what’s happening in the traumatized brain and the impact on children, emotionally, behaviorally, and physically.
  2. Discuss the importance of the therapeutic powers of play as a change agent in the treatment of trauma to address thoughts, feelings and healing related to traumatic experiences.
  3. Identify 10 directive play therapy techniques to assist children and adolescents with reprocessing traumatic experiences and lead towards healing.

Brianna Grant, LCSW, RPT-S™

Brianna Grant is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™ who specializes in working with children, adolescents and their families. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 2002 and a graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 2008. Brianna has received specialized training and utilizes the treatment modalities of Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Attachment, Self-Regulation and Competency (ARC model), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR- Level II) practitioner. She provides professional and clinical trainings on the topics of child sexual abuse, trauma, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, adverse childhood experiences and play therapy. She has served as a guest presenter for the graduate programs at David Lipscomb University and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and previously for the graduate program at Argosy University in Atlanta, Georgia. Brianna Grant has a private practice in Nashville, TN and also serves as the Program Manager for the Pediatric Therapy and PCP Partnership Program with the Mental Health Cooperative in Nashville, TN.
